Welcome to our patch notes breakdown for League of Legends Season 14!
Let’s break down all the new changes in LoL coming this week.
We recommend following along with the official 14.9 patch notes since we won’t be listing all the specific stat changes, but rather, focusing on the impact of the changes and the champions updated place in the current meta.
If you’re wondering how these changes will affect the meta, check out our LoL champion tier list!
Lee Sin ASU is Live!
There’s quite a lot to cover in this patch, so let’s kick it off with Lee Sin’s changes. He has received an ASU this patch, so his character model, animations and splashes have changed. We’ve got you covered with some Lee Sin content already, which you can find below:

Arena Mode Is Making a Comeback
I’ll briefly touch on this one, but Arena Mode is returning. The game mode has undergone many changes, so stay tuned for some content soon!
Buffs, Nerfs and Changes
Before we get into it, there are many champion radius changes—too many to list, really—but check out the patch notes to see who was affected.
Amumu (buff)
- Amumu’s base stats are improved slightly. He might be a little bit strong in the Support and Jungle roles.
Ahri (nerf)
- Her W damage is reduced.
- Ahri’s Ultimate cooldown is also increased in the later ranks.
Aurelion Sol (nerf)
- Aurelion’s E AP ratio is decreased.
Blitzcrank (nerf)
- W movement speed is reduced. He will be easier to take down when he activates his W.
- His Passive shield is also nerfed.
Evelynn (nerf)
- Her W slow is decreased.
- Furthermore, her Ultimate damage is reduced.
- This will make Evelynn a weaker champion overall, which is nice for everyone apart from Eve players!
Janna (nerf)
- This is going to make Janna more of a healing/ shielding champion rather than a poke champ. Her W damage is reduced, but the E shield is increased. So her damage output will be less, but her healing and shielding will be stronger.
Jinx (nerf)
- Her Ultimate cooldown is increased at all ranks.
Karma (buff)
- Her Q slow is increased.
- Ther R>E AOE shield strength and the haste it provides are increased.
- Expect Karma to be stronger in the Mid and Support role(s) this patch.
Kassadin (nerf)
- E AP ratio is decreased. He will be weaker in 1v1s.
Kennen (buff)
- E and R QoL changes.
Twitch (nerf)
- Base stats are changed.
- His Ultimate bonus damage is also reduced.
- Twitch’s W slow is reduced too.
Urgot (nerf)
- His armor growth is reduced. So he will be less tanky overall, but it isn’t the end of the world really.
Taliyah (nerf)
- Q mana cost is increased, and her damage to monsters is reduced. She will be a weaker Jungler overall.
Seraphine (buff)
- Seraphine’s Q AP ratio is increased. This will benefit her in the Mid, ADC and Support role. In particular it is quite good with fasting Senna.
Pyke (nerf)
- His W mana cost is increased, and the cooldown is increased too.
- Quite big nerfs to his roaming and escape potential.
Olaf (nerf)
- His Q damage is reduced at all ranks, but it is stronger versus monsters. So this change is trying to get him into the jungle role and away from the Top Lane.
Master Yi (nerf)
- His W true damage is decreased. His 1v1 potential will be impacted.
Malzahar (buff)
- His Q mana cost now scales, and is better overall.
- His E cooldown is also reduced.
- These buffs will make him a stronger pick this patch!
Skarner (changed)
- Base stats are changed.
- Q damage is decreased, and his W slow is decreased too. He will be weaker in the Jungle and Top role.
Sejuani (changed)
- Passive bonus resistances are better.
- However, her W damage is changed.
- Time will only tell if this change is better or worse for her.
Nilah (changed)
- Nilah’s Q minimum damage is decreased, bonus attack speed is increased, but her crit chance damage modifier is nerfed too.
- She is still going to be really good, even with these nerfs.
Bel’Veth (changed)
- Passive bonus movement speed is changed.
- Her Q damage is decreased, and it’s stronger against monsters early on.
Akshan (changed)
- His Q movement speed (when he hits a champion with Q) is nerfed, and the damage vs non champs is reduced. This will negatively impact his wave clear.
- R damage(s) are changed.
Item Changes
Hexdrinker
- Item recipe has changed, and provides less MR.
Maw of Malmortius
- Cost is increased, now provides ability haste, gives less MR, more AD and no longer gives lifesteal (switched to omnivamp instead)
Death’s Dance
- Item recipe has changed. It gives more AD, and now healing scales better with AD.
Sterak’s Gage
- Price is reduced, and the lifeline cooldown is dramatically increased.
- Not a good change in my opinion. It will negatively impact a lot of fighters.
Sundered Sky
- Cooldown is increased, and healing is reduced. This will negatively impact a ton of different fighters.
Eclipse
- The final fighter nerf is towards Eclipse.
- It’s damage is reduced for melee champions.
